Dear People
1. We've received some enquiries lately about ATEM membership, so here's a quick reminder. There are two types of ATEM membership. Individual members pay for the benefits and privileges of membership which include a 20% discount on professional development programs and the “Journal of Higher Education Policy and Management”. Corporate membership is also fee based and provides member institutions with individual member rights for five senior managers, plus free advertising on the ATEM web site for job vacancies and postgraduate courses designed for Tertiary Managers. A newly added benefit for corporate member institutions in 2009 was a 10% discount for professional development programs for their staff who ARE NOT individual members of ATEM (affiliate rate). The membership benefits which apply to all individual members and the nominated corporate members can be seen here: https://www.atem.org.au/membership_benefits.cfm.
2. ATEM Leadership Masterclass - additional information about the program is now available at http://tinyurl.com/275nguf . If you have a question, please contact Maree Conway (maree.conway@atem.org.au).
3. The Minutes of the ATEM Council meeting held in Brisbane on 25 June can be seen here:

4. Females (45+) who are tertiary education administrators and managers, and working full-time or part time, are needed for research! Researchers at the University of New South Wales are exploring ways to help people make better retirement decisions in the future. They want to better understand factors that contribute to a successful retirement, as well as factors that influence attitudes and decisions to continue working. The study involves completion of two short 10-15 minute online surveys over a one-month period and, in between, completion of three x 1-hour weekly training modules aimed at improving retirement planning. As a thank you for your participation, you will be invited to enter a draw to win 1 of 3 CV makeovers or a copy of “Resumes That Get Shortlisted” (Bright & Earl, 2004). Interested? Go here to complete the survey: http://www.surveys.unsw.edu.au/survey/154918/1452. Questions: please call Belinda at 0430 042 628, or email belinda.hua@student.unsw.edu.au
5. The Aotearoa Region is please to advise that Jenni Tupu from the University of Auckland has been elevated to the status of ATEM Fellow: our congratulations to Jenni. The following members have received Professional Development Awards for 2010:
* Jenni Tupu - A $1,000 award to assist with expenses associated with attending the TEM Conference in Melbourne and the Tuia Te Ako 2010 Conference in Wellington

TEC has announced the 2012 PBRF Quality Evaluation Guidelines. For more information go to http://tinyurl.com/2e3rfpc
6. We made six predictions in the first “Weekend Update” on 1 January 2010. Two of them have already been achieved. We will publish five editions of the “Journal of Higher Education Policy and Management” this year and six editions next year subject to funding; and we have 22 not 20 people coming to the ATEM Ghosts’ Lunch. We are going well with the other four predictions as well: more about them later.
Cheers
Maree Conway, Giles Pickford and Peter Scardoni
