Conferences

Heads of Student Administration Conference

The HoSA Conference 2016 will be held in Dunedin, New Zealand from Wednesday, 10 to Friday, 12 August 2016.

The universities of New Zealand are pleased to be hosting this year's conference, exploring the theme of:

"The only constant is change".

Everything is changing at pace: technology, deliverables, expectations and accountability. Working smarter, faster and more co-operatively, without jeopardising quality of service, will continue to challenge student administration providers in the years ahead.

Come and share your initiatives and gain ideas and inspiration from the experience of others with our 2016 program at the Dunedin Centre.

Registrations will be available at the end of April. Contact information is available here.

The Call for Contributions is NOW OPEN - click for more information.

We are proud to thank our 2016 SPONSORS and hope to see you in Dunedin in 2016.

Call for Contributions

The organising committee of the HoSA 2016 Conference invites you to submit a contribution for consideration in the conference program around the conference theme: The only constant is change.

Everything is changing at pace: technology, deliverables, expectations and accountability. Working smarter, faster and more co-operatively, without jeopardising quality of service, will continue to challenge student administration providers in the years ahead.

The organising committee welcomes contributions which address the conference theme. Some suggested topic areas include:

  • Changing student expectations and/or demographics and initiatives to meet these (including student-centred administrative approaches and the use of social media for marketing, recruitment and retention);
  • Managing change, including staff culture during times of change;
  • Broad trends in higher education (international, regional or national) and responses to these;
  • Digitalisation of processes and organisational changes arising from this;
  • Initiatives designed to increase efficiency and/or service levels (e.g. shared services);
  • The use of 'big data' and other analytics in the university setting;
  • Evaluation of initiatives two to five years after implementation (this may include follow up on initiatives previously discussed at HoSA conferences).

Please note that these are only suggestions; presentations on other topics relevant to the conference theme are most welcome. Download the Call for Contributions.

Presentation Styles
Presentations will normally be 45 minutes in length, including question and answer time. There will also be 'Fast Topic' presentations which will be 25 minutes in length, again including question and answer time. The organising committee reserves the right to assign topics to either of these formats, but in making a submission, you may indicate your preference.

While the standard format will be a formal presentation followed by questions, submissions for an open forum topic will also be considered. If this format is intended, please make this clear in your submission.
Submissions with multiple presenters, including presenters from across universities, are welcome.

Submitting a Contribution
Contributions should be submitted as a Word document to Chris Stoddart, Chair of the HoSA 2016 Organising Committee, at HoSA-2016@otago.ac.nz by Friday, 6 May, 2016.

The submission should describe your topic (limit of 250 words) and also include the title of your presentation, name of the presenter(s)/author(s) and any information on the proposed presentation style (see above). You are also required to submit a biography of 100 words for each speaker. Correspondence will be via the email address from which the submission is sent.

Any queries about the submission process can be directed to HoSA-2016@otago.ac.nz.
