Continuing Professional Development

The concept and practice of life long learning is an important element in enabling you to take your place in the global knowledge economy, and contribute effectively to the management of your institution.

ATEM's professional education and training framework allows you to build your career over time and to contribute to the professionalisation of tertiary education management.

Professional Education and Training Framework

ATEM's Professional Education and Training Framework (PETF) was developed to encourage and support members to continue their personal and professional learning during their careers. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the core of this learning process.

The primary purpose of the PETF is to ensure that, as tertiary education managers and administrators, we maintain professional currency, contribute effectively within our workplaces and build professionalism in our activities by working to develop, disseminate and advance knowledge about our professional practice.

What is the PETF?

The PETF is a set of requirements for continuing professional education which is linked to ATEM Membership Levels.  To maintain and keep the membership levels of Associate Fellow and Fellow, you must complete the required number of hours of CPD.

Why are the new professional standards and membership grading important?

Members of ATEM are entitled to a fair and equitable professional standard that underpins the status of the profession and supports strong career opportunities for its members. These professional standards enable existing ATEM members to move to higher membership levels by fulfilling the required criteria, thereby demonstrating recognised leadership within the profession.
