Introductory Process Mapping - 14/05/12 Melbourne Program Full & Closed

Process maps, diagrams and workflows have become increasingly important in our daily work. These are used as a way of conceptualising and communicating complex activities in an abstract, visual and concise manner. There are international standards used for documenting processes, some of these used for representing high level processes, others used for more detailed ones. The most common standard is the Unified Modelling Language (UML). Use cases, process workflows and activity diagrams are increasingly being used to represent new business practices.
This workshop will provide participants with the required tools to conceptualise and define processes at a high and detailed level, analyse them while at the same time equip them with the practical tools to illustrate and document these.
The morning session starts with an introduction to the theoretical aspects of the processes: how are these defined, what are their components and methodologies used for representation and documentation. The session concludes with a practical exercise designed to help participants apply these concepts.
This afternoon session focuses on reinforcing the theory while introducing methods for process analysis and improvement. A practical exercise is used to help participants analyse and propose ideas for process change. The session concludes with a demonstration of Microsoft Visio targeted to those practitioners who have a need to draw diagrams that look professional
